ROCHESTER - Rochester City Councilor Chris Rice is under investigation for allegations involving violations of city policy that could constitute misconduct in office, Rochester Mayor Paul Callaghan announced during Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

Callaghan selected Deputy Mayor Pete Lachapelle, as well as councilors Skip Gilman and Amy Malone to form an investigative committee that would report back to City Council on its conclusions.

The results of the subcommittee are expected to be delivered back to City Council no later than May 17, Callaghan noted.

In addition the mayor temporarily stripped Rice of his chairmanship of the public safety committee while the investigation is ongoing.

His temporary replacement will be Lachapelle, who is vice chair.

Callaghan gave no indication of what the specific allegations were or what they were based on.

During the investigation Rice remains a full board member on the City Council.

He was not immediately available for comment.
