Rochester folk come together to try to clean up the town

ROCHESTER - Last Saturday Rochester Main Street and the Rochester Recreation Department hosted Rochester Cares, an all-volunteer cleanup day focused on removing trash, gardening, and improving the overall look of downtown Rochester.

According to Rochester Main Street president Jeff Bisson, Rochester Cares has been running annually for many years. The purpose of the event is to bring people together to clean up before the warmer seasons.

"We always look forward to this event because it brings people together and promotes city pride," said Bisson. "We had great weather and more volunteers than we've had in years past. We thank everyone that helped out. From Hanson Pines to the Common, we had volunteers everywhere."

Nicole Lee, from the Rec Department, echoed Bisson's sentiments by saying, "Citizens of Rochester of all ages came out to show how much they care -- from those who had been participating in CleanUp Day for over a decade, to those who had just moved to the city, to children and high school students and families. It was amazing to see downtown full of people working together to make their community a cleaner, more beautiful place to live."

Organizers thank Waste Management and the City of Rochester for their considerable contributions toward the success of the event.
