Rochester Library's Children's Room about to get creative

ROCHESTER - The Children's Room, at the Rochester Public Library will begin offering "experience art" sessions for school-age kids, starting Tuesday.

Experience art, also known as process art, engages children in the experience and the process involved in creating, rather than the end result. According to experts, the activity honors the child's individual expression and offers the opportunity to explore without restrictions.

Children's librarian Christina Paquette says that during these art sessions, there is no right or wrong way to create.

"Experience art is meant to be fun and playful," said Paquette. "It fosters independence, self-regulation, and encourages creative thinking and learning. It also helps build confidence and motor skills."

Children are invited to experiment with provided materials, invent, create, and socialize. Participants should come dressed with the potential to get messy. This is a fully independent program, however, a parent or guardian must remain if the participant is under the age of 10.

The first session will be held at 3:30 p.m. this coming Tuesday. The program is open to kids ages 6-12. Registration is required. Please call (603) 335-7549 for additional information, general inquiries, and to sign up.
