DOVER - A Rochester man has been indicted in the vicious assault on a woman last October.

Michael Gilfert, 60, of Old Dover Road, is charged with two counts of second degree assault in connection with an Oct. 7 incident that occurred in Rochester.

Gilfert is accused in court filings of "causing serious bodily injury by striking (the victim) in the face causing a broken nose" and strangling her.

Both charges carry a maximum prison sentence of seven years.

The Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down on April 12 and released on Thursday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been presented to move forward to trial.
