MILTON - A Rochester man died overnight after crashing his vehicle on Route 16 while trying to flee Milton Police who were attempting to arrest him on several warrants.

The incident began around 8 p.m. when the Milton Police Department attempted to arrest Sean York, 28, who was wanted on several outstanding felony warrants.

Prior to being taking into custody the subject became aware of the Police presence and fled the area in a 2016 Chrysler 200, a stolen vehicle, according to a press release from State Police.

Milton Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but York continued onto Route 16 southbound at a high rate of speed. In the area between Exit 17 and 18 he lost control of the vehicle, which then slid across Route 16, left the roadway, rolled over and caught on fire.

York suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene. There were no other occupants in this vehicle and no other vehicles involved in the crash.

The crash investigation is being handled by the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit (C.A.R. Unit) with assistance from State Police Troop A.

Assisting on scene were members of the Milton Police Department, NH State Police Troop A Barracks, NH Fire Marshal's Office, Milton Fire and Rescue and New Hampshire Department of Transportation. Route 16 north and southbound was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated.

At this time it appears that speed was a major factor; however, the crash remains under investigation by the C.A.R. Unit. Anyone that may have further information related to this crash is asked to contact Trooper First Class Thomas Conlon at (603) 223-8614 or email at thomas.conlon@dos.nh.gov.
