Rochester man gets at least six years in kidnap, assault case

DOVER - A Rochester man who was part of a bizarre kidnapping incident last June in which he and two associates told the victim "we are going to take you to the woods in Maine and kill you," was sentenced to at least six years in state prison on Friday.

Dylan Madore, 22, formerly of Chestnut Street, was sentenced to at least two and a half years for kidnapping and three and a half years for second degree assault. A cocaine trafficking charge was to be served concurrently with the other two major charges.

Madore also got credit for serving 227 days at Strafford County Jail prior to sentencing.

Several other charges including five simple assaults and two other drug charges were nol prossed.

Garrett Pehowic, 21, and Anthony M. Smith, 23, of 193 Pleasant St. were also charged in the case.

The bizarre kidnapping unfolded around 6:15 p.m. on June 13 when police received a 911 report of an adult being kidnapped. At the time, it was stated that a 21-year-old male had been abducted and beaten by three people. The call stated the male was then forced into a vehicle, but was able to break a window and escape before calling 911.

The victim was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife threatening injuries

At the time of the arrest Madore was charged with kidnapping, conspiracy to commit second degree assault, possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled drug, while Pehowic was charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit second degree assault and Smith was charged with kidnapping and second degree assault.

According to the indictments, the three while acting in concert did "confine (the victim) ... when they kept him in a motor vehicle and stating words to the effect of 'we are going to take you to the woods in Maine and kill you.'" The three are also accused of acting in concert when they strangled the victim.

Pehowic, who is currently incarcerated at Carroll County Jail, faces a sentencing on Feb. 7, while Smith is expected to plead guilty on March 12.
