ROCHESTER - A Rochester man was seriously injured on Friday when he was struck by a car while walking in a downtown crosswalk.

The accident occurred around 6:50 p.m. in the area of Citizen's Bank on Wakefield Street when police say Michael McMahon, 36, of Rochester, was driving a 2002 Cadillac north on South Main Street when he struck the pedestrian, Timothy Johnstone, 28, of Rochester.

McMahon was approaching the intersection near Hanson Street when police say a vehicle pulled out from the North Main Street turn blocking his view of Johnstone in the cross walk and the impact occurred.

Johnstone suffered what are described as serious, but nonlife-threatening injuries and was transported to Frisbie Hospital by ambulance.

Part of the road was closed for about 30 minutes during an investigation.
