BOSTON - For several Rochester Police officers, Tuesday night at Fenway Park must have been a life experience resembling a walk-off grand slam.

Under the direction of Lt. Tony Bossi, five officers from the Rochester Police Department performed as the Honor Guard prior to the playing of the National Anthem as the Sox took on the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bossi has been working with the department's Honor Guard for the past couple of years and has sought to get them more involved in various sporting and civic events, said Rochester Police Capt. Gary Boudreau today.

The unit takes part in several local events presenting the colors at the Christmas and Memorial Day parades as well as opening day at the Buddy Ball Park and Roger Allen Park.

They have performed at the CHAD Battle of the Badges game and at the annual Police Memorial in Concord. Sadly, they also see service at more somber events like line of duty funerals.

But Tuesday it was all smiles for the group who got to meet Jerry Remy up in the NESN broadcast booth and saw themselves bigger than life on the Fenway Park jumbotron.

The Red Sox often have different honor/color guards come to present the colors for the national anthem, and so when Bossi reached out to them, they were happy to find a date, said Boudreau, who added a large contingent of family and friends of the officers also made the trip.

Boudreau said the Honor Guard would also be performing at an upcoming home Bruins game this year, too.

"This was a great experience for the officers who were involved in the unit," Boudreau said.

Members of the group also include Officer Justin Seckendorf, Officer John Gantert, Sgt. Jeremy Aucoin and Lt. Todd Pinkham.
