FARMINGTON - Roger O. "Sam" Lavertu, 77, of Sycamore Boulevard, died Sunday, February 26, 2017, peacefully at home. Born on October 27, 1939, in Allenstown, N.H., son of Omer L. and Dolores C. (Raymond) Lavertu, he resided originally in Lebanon, Maine, for over 20 years, then Farmington since 1995.
Sam served in the US Navy, on the submarine USS Darter (SS-576).
Sam was retired and had worked as a Mechanical and Production Engineer. He and a friend started the Sprague Electric plant in Sanford, Maine from an old car dealership garage and enjoyed working for them for nearly 30 years. He also worked at Eastern Air Devices and was a self-employed Finish Carpenter. An avid outdoorsman, Sam enjoyed deer and bird hunting, as well as fishing at Baxter State Park in Maine and Homer, Alaska. Sam was an experienced gardener and enjoyed reading.
Survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia (Rand), his children: Scott, Rebecca, Andrew, Michelle, Christopher, John, and William, 17 Grandchildren, eight Great Grandchildren, his sister Joanne, and brother Norman. He was predeceased by his older sister Joyce.
