Kait's Recommendations

Assistant Librarian, Kait, says: "June is Queer Pride Month and one of my favorite ways to celebrate is by reading queer books! When it comes to books in the LGBTQIAP+ lineup, some letters have more representation than others. Today I'm focusing on the B and P, which stand for Bisexual and Pansexual respectively. The first six books are all YA contemporaries, and the other half are a mix of science fiction and fantasy books. Several of these books are my personal favorites, so I hope that everyone enjoys them as much as I do!"

1. Lucky Girl by Jamie Pacton

2. Cool for the Summer by Dahlia Adler

3. Zara Hossain is Here by Sabina Khan

4. Follow Your Arrow by Jessica Verdi

5. The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde

6. Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan

7. Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

8. Crownchasers by Rebecca Coffindaffer

9. Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

10. Once and Future by A.R. Capetta and Cory McCarthy

11. Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

12. One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston

Children's Room

Summer Reading

All our programming will be done outside on the lawn. We will be following NH Best Practices guidelines. Our programs will depend on the weather, so we will announce our events by 9:15 a.m. on our Facebook page, or you can sign up for email notifications: http://eepurl.com/bmuU6f

Story Walks: These will be held on two dates, each at a different location in Rochester. All families welcome.

New Playaways

Children's Room Librarian, Lisa, shares: "Our order of new Playaways arrived! These are great for kids and families looking for audio books to listen to on road trips or for quiet times. For those who have never used them, Playaways are pre-loaded digital books in a portable battery-operated device. All you need are earbuds! If you want to share them for a car ride, plug them in with an auxiliary cord and listen through the vehicle speakers. Our new Playaways should be available for checkout soon."

Teen Summer Reading Program

YA Librarian, Donna, says: "Beginning June 21 and running through August 6, the Teen Summer Reading Program, Tails & Tales, is free for any teens entering Grades 6-12. Pick up a reading log in the library or on our website. Read at least 2 hours a week for a small prize and a chance to win the weekly raffle. You can read anything (ok, maybe not the backs of cereal boxes) including books, magazines, newspapers and graphic novels. Read to yourself, or read aloud to someone. You can even listen to an audio book (see SYNC below!) And don't forget, there are PRIZES! Answer Trivia questions and do book reviews for candy. Reading logs are entered into a raffle at the end of the program. The more weeks you participate, the greater your chances of winning!

SYNC Teen Audiobooks

Now through August 4th, teens can access SYNC, a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. Titles are available worldwide and change every Thursday at midnight (Eastern time, during the season). Titles are accessible through Sora, the student reading app from Overdrive and are Mac and Windows compatible. Each SYNC audiobook will be available to borrow into your SYNC library for a period of 7 days (only). Once loaded into the app, titles are yours indefinitely.

Adult Summer Reading

Reference Librarian, Beth says: "All you need to do to participate in this year's Adult Summer Reading Program is read! Read anything you want: read for fun, for comfort, to explore new genres, or to learn something new. You can read novels, nonfiction, graphic novels, YA, middle grade, picture books, magazines, articles, essays, it doesn't matter. Reading is great for your brain, and we want to reward you for doing it! Track your reading using the Beanstack app (or website). All you have to do is keep track of how many minutes you've read (paper logs will also be made available in the Library and on our website). The Beanstack app has a built-in stopwatch, but you can also use any form of timekeeping and then enter that number of minutes into your Beanstack account. You will win badges, prizes, and raffle tickets as you go! Some examples of possible prizes include Friends of the Library tote bags, protective book sleeves, a super soft and cozy reading cushion, and the grand raffle prize of a Samsung tablet (compatible with both Overdrive/Libby and hoopla)! For more information and to register, head on over to the Library's website: rpl.lib.nh.us We are hoping to see you all summer long!"

Inter-Library Loans

If you're looking for a book, DVD, audiobook or other item and can't find it in our catalog, then just fill out an Inter-library loan slip and our amazing ILL Librarian, Donna, will stop at nothing to track it down for you! New patrons will have to wait 3 months to request an item from another library.
