CORNISH, Maine - A Sanford man was killed on Thursday in a head-on collision on Sokolis Trail in Cornish.

The crash occurred around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Spur Road. Preliminary investigation showed that a 2003 Dodge Caravan operated by Paul Goodwin, 34, of Sanford was traveling south on Sokokis Trail (Route 5) and crossed the center line striking a 2012 Dodge pickup being driven by William Loring, 44, of Parsonsfield, according to the York County Sherifff's Office.

Cornish Fire and Rescue responded along with Limerick Fire and Rescue. Goodwin died at the scene. Loring was transported to the Maine Medical Center by Limerick Rescue in serious condition.

It is not clear why Goodwin crossed onto incoming traffic.

Both men were wearing seat belts and were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

The crash is being reconstructed by the YCSO.
