ROCHESTER - Rochester Police arrested a Maine man on a Fugitive from Justice charge after a car he was in crashed into a utility pole in the area of Maple and Cleveland streets on Sunday.

The scene unfolded as police responded around 3:05 p.m. to the crash scene where it was said the three occupants who had gotten out seemed disoriented and injured and had left the scene.

When police arrived they located a heavily damage 2015 Audi A5 that had struck the utility pole. Its airbags had deployed, the windshield was smashed and there was extensive front end damage.

There was no one in the vehicle, and it was reported one male bleeding from the head had run from the scene along with a couple of others, Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said today.

Responding officers located one male not far from the vehicle who had sustained multiple injuries, including some that were deemed serious. He was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

A female occupant who sustained what were described as nonlife threatening injures was also located. She was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital.

The other male who fled the scene was not immediately located.

Police conducted a K9 track, but it went cold.

About three hours later, however, an officer did locate the suspect in a neighborhood off Washington Street.

Chace B. Bellefountaine, 35, was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. He was then arrested on a fugitive from justice charge in connection with a Sanford robbery and transported to Strafford County Jail.

Details about the Sanford robbery were not immediately available.

Pinkham said the investigation continues.
