Sanford motorcyclist eludes police, later turns self in

A Sanford motorcyclist led police on a high-speed chase through three towns, including Lebanon, on Wednesday before lawmen called off the dangerous pursuit.
After a short investigation it was determined the operator was Anthony Gallant, 23, of 25 Old Post Lane, Sanford, Maine. Gallant was notified and shortly thereafter turned himself into authorities.
York County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated the chase after seeing Gallant speeding in excess of 30 mph over the posted speed on Milton Mills Road in Acton.
He then allegedly refused to stop for deputies, went through the stop sign at Route 109 near the Acton fairgrounds and led them on a chase through Acton and Shapleigh before entering Lebanon at speeds in excess of 80 mph.
In Lebanon, he traveled west on Baker’s Grant Road before taking a right and heading back toward Milton Mills on Milton Mills Road, where deputies called off the pursuit, said Deputy Sheriff Bill King on Friday.
Gallant was charged with Eluding an Officer and Passing a Police Roadblock, both Class C crimes. Gallant posted bail of $1,000 and has been released. He has a York County Superior Court date of Nov. 27.
