Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Kevin Smith is hoping to take on Democrat Maggie Hassan in November.

LONDONDERRY - New Hampshire U.S. Senate candidate Kevin Smith urged President Biden to take drastic new actions to secure the border, including labeling the Mexican drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. Smith also penned a letter to all 50 Governors reiterating pleas by Texas Governors Greg Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey for any additional law enforcement to be sent to help secure the southern border.
Illegal border crossings reached their highest levels ever in April, and drug overdoses in New Hampshire and America have reached new records as fentanyl pours into our streets, Smith noted.
"Our border crisis is the worst it's ever been, and deadly foreign fentanyl is pouring over the southern border and into our communities causing record overdoses. It is past time to view this fentanyl as a foreign weapon of mass destruction, and formally designate the cartels that traffic it as Foreign Terrorist Organizations." he added.
Smith's letter called for three immediate actions to be taken to secure the border:
President Biden to send National Guard troops to Texas and Arizona to immediately secure the border until appropriate measures are in place and the wall is complete; and for all 50 Governors to send any available law enforcement or national guard troops to the border.
Immediately designate the Mexican drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Immediately remove Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas from his cabinet position for his refusal to acknowledge and address the crisis. Even worse, he claims he has "effectively managed an unprecedented number of noncitizens seeking to enter the United States."

Smith, a former town manager of Londonderry and Pease Development Authority chair, added "We have never seen our border in such crisis before, and as fentanyl pours over the border and into our communities, every state is now a border state. The additional backup our Governors deploy to secure the border will directly reduce the fentanyl flowing into their home states and save lives. The Biden Administration has failed to lead, leaving the crisis on the doorstep of every State to act upon."
Smith, a Republican is looking to take on Democrat U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan, whom he refers to often as "Maggie Hasn't."

Other Republican seeking to go up against Hassan include:
Gerard Beloin, roofing contractor
Gen. Donald C. Bolduc, former U.S. Army Special Forces brigadier general and candidate for U.S. Senate in 2020
Chuck Morse, President of the New Hampshire Senate (2013-2018, 2020-present) and former Acting Governor of New Hampshire (2017)
Tejasinha Sivalingam, candidate for state representative in 2018 and 2020
