Single-day high for cases, including youth; NH's blacks, Hispanics hit hardest

CONCORD - Statewide confirmed coronavirus cases jumped to a single-day high on Wednesday with 99 positive test results, including 23 under the age of 18.

The new cases reside in Rockingham (27), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (10), Strafford (6), Merrimack (4), and Cheshire (3) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (38) and Nashua (5).

Seven of the new cases have been hospitalized.

DHHS has also announced six additional deaths related to COVID-19, including two men from Rockingham County 60 or older, three men from Hillsborough County 60 older, one woman from Strafford County 60 or older.

New demographic data also shows the confirmed case percentages of blacks and Hispanics as higher than their percent of the state's population as has been represented in other parts of the country like Illinois and New York.

Blacks represent 1.4 percent of the Granite State population and 5.4 percent of confirmed COVID-19 cases, while Hispanics comprise 3.9 percent of NH's population but 6.1 percent of confirmed cases.

The age group most afflicted with the disease continues to be 50-60, who have accounted for 21 percent of total infections.

Strafford County saw six new confirmed cases for a total of 111, or 8 percent of cases statewide. Hillsborough County has been hardest hit with 42 percent of confirmed cases for a total of 604. Rockingham has 34 percent with 489.

Locally cumulative case numbers are over 50 in Dover, 10-19 in Rochester and Somersworth, 5-9 in Barrington and Farmington and 1-5 in Milton.

Maine cases now total 907 with 144 hospitalizations and 39 deaths. The number of individuals with negative test results totals 16,764.
