ROCHESTER - Police say a Rochester man took a sledgehammer to the front door of a Central Avenue residence during an argument over money on Friday.

The incident unfolded around 10:40 a.m. as officers responded to the area of Central Avenue for a report of a male who had just smashed in the front door of a residence.

The caller told police the man then left with the sledgehammer.

An officer located the suspect, 30-year-old Ronald Murphy, in the area of Bridge Street a short time later.

During the investigation officers determined the parties involved were known to each and that there was an argument over money before Murphy smashed the door to pieces and entered the residence.

No one was injured during the incident.

Murphy, of Cold Spring Circle, was charged with burglary and criminal mischief. He was also hit with a contempt charge as he was currently on bail from a January arrest.
