DOVER - A Somersworth man is facing life in prison and a $500,000 fine following his indictment on felony fentanyl possession with the intent to distribute the deadly drug.
Matthew Burkhardt, 31, of Pinewood Drive, was formally charged by a Strafford County grand jury on Jan. 19.
Burkhardt is accused of "knowingly possessing more than five grams of the schedule II drug fentanyl and having a prior offense," according to court documents.
His arrest occurred on April 22 in Rochester.
The charge is classified as a special felony that is punishable by up to life imprisonment.
The most recent grand jury indictments were handed down on Jan. 19 and released on Tuesday.
An indictment is not an admission of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been presented to a grand jury to move forward to trial.
