Somersworth Police investigating death of month-old infant

SOMERSWORTH - Somersworth Police are investigating the death of an infant that occurred on Tuesday.
The tragic incident unfolded around 6:10 a.m. as the city's police, fire and rescue personnel responded to an unidentified Somersworth residence for a report of month-old child who was not breathing and nonresponsive.
Upon arrival it was confirmed the infant was lifeless, prompting responder to begin life-saving efforts, which continued upon arrival at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.
Medical staff at WDH were also unable to revive the infant.
An autopsy was performed later on Wednesday, but the results were not released.
A press release sent today confirms a joint investigation involving the Somersworth Police and state Medical Examiner's Office continues.
A cause and manner of death will be determined at a later time and will be based upon further investigation and medical studies.
