LEBANON - Sophie, the Mastiff/Rottweiler mix injured in a hit-and-run incident in Center Lebanon last month, is wagging her tail extra hard today after an anonymous donor agreed to pay the money needed for her operation to mend her broken left hind leg next week at Milton Veterinary Clinic.

Robin MacGown, who lives on Jim Grant Road, made the announcement on The Lebanon Voice Facebook page Wednesday night around 9 p.m.

Sophie’s charitable account at gofundme.com has about $900 in it now, and an anonymous donor from Lebanon has agreed to pay the balance for the operation, expected to cost between $3,000 and $3,500.

In the Facebook post, MacGown, a single mom who recently went through bankruptcy and foreclosure and is trying to raise two teenagers, expressed her thanks to all the people who have been so generous in contributing to the cause.

“I am so very happy and grateful to everyone who helped us out. Thank you so very much,” she said.

Sophie was struck during the early nighttime hours of Dec. 13 after she somehow got out of the MacGown’s house at the corner of Center and Jim Grant roads.

Motorists who saw Sophie in the road had stopped to get her inside when what they described as a sports car went around their car, wheeled onto Jim Grant, struck Sophie and sped away heading toward Five Corners.

MacGown said Sophie is expected to undergo the surgery next Wednesday.

MacGown was hoping for a surgery sooner rather than later as the longer it was put off the more likely it was that Sophie’s broken bones would heal improperly.
