Speed, alcohol believed factors in motorcycle crash

COPYRIGHT2017© LEBANON - Speed and alcohol are believed factors in a motorcycle crash that occurred a little after 6 p.m. on Saturday in South Lebanon.

The accident occurred on Route 202 in the area of Southern Maine Tool and Rental.

The victim was taken in serious condition to Frisbie Memorial where he was transferred to the trauma center in Portsmouth.

Toxicology tests are pending to determine if the man, a Berwick resident in his late 30s, will be charged with a DUI, said Maine State Police Trooper Rick Spicer today.

Spicer said there had been complaints from motorists for an eastbound motorcycle weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash. He said a 400-foot skid mark preceded the crash.

The victim's family on scene said they were relieved that at least he had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which he usually didn't do, Spicer said.

Meanwhile, a Jeep Cherokee that rolled over at Train's Quickstop around 7:30 p.m. was blamed on the driver taking the left into Trains and then right toward the gas pumps going a little too fast.

Spicer said two girls in the Jeep suffered just minor injuries while the other was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center for a dislocated elbow.

There were no charges.

All three women were from Seabrook, N.H., and in their early 20s.
