GRAY, Maine - If you're waiting for that warm, sunny spring weather to wash away the misery of the worst winter eva'h, well, don't hold your breath.

The next two weeks' temperatures will be "a little below to somewhat below normal" with a lot of clouds and showers, according to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine.

"We're in an unsettled pattern, with a chance for showers during most afternoons," NWS meteorologist Tom Hawley said today." And there could be a significant rainstorm next week."

Hawley said NWS models show a large low building next Thursday along the Atlantic Seaboard that will gather steam off Long Island and linger over New England into Sunday, with the heaviest rain headed for southern New Hampshire and southern Maine.

"This will be a multi-day event with possible flooding," he said, adding as much as two and a half inches of rain could fall.

Hawley said the unsettled weather pattern - including cooler temps and the potential for daily afternoon showers - will continue for the next two weeks.

"It's almost like a summer weather pattern, with afternoon showers," he added.

Without the warmth, that is.

In fact, Accuweather predicts only two days over 70 degrees between now and June 4, with the next sunny day not until May 8.

Still, if you think April has been unusually chilly, you'd be wrong. As of midnight last night, the Portland average is 43 degrees, a half-degree above the month's average.
