Standoff with elderly Dover man ends with use of nonlethal munitions, K9 unit

DOVER - An elderly Dover man was taken into custody on Sunday following an hours-long standoff that only ended after the use of nonlethal munitions and a K9 unit.
The incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday when officers sought to arrest Francis Alix, 68, of 15 Third St. Unit 103, on a stalking warrant out of Newmarket.
When police arrived on scene Alix retreated to an upper floor, barricaded himself in a room and threatened to kill officers, according to a police statement released on Monday.
Upon threats from Alix, patrol officers backed out of the residence and requested assistance from the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit. Officers continued to attempt to contact Alix for about two hours without success, but Alix eventually exited his residence shortly after 10 p.m., but failed to follow commands from law enforcement and was taken into custody following deployment of a less-lethal munitions system and the Dover Police Department's K9.

He was transported to the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and treated for nonlife threatening injuries and later charged by Dover Police with Resisting Arrest or Detention and Criminal Threatening.

Alix refused bail and was taken to the Strafford County Department of Corrections pending arraignment.
