State's Senior Games set for Sunday at Memorial High in Manchester

MANCHESTER - More than 160 athletes from across New Hampshire, New England and beyond will gather at the track facility at Memorial High School on Sunday for the 31st annual NH Senior Games Track and Field Event.

"The Track and Field Meet is always a highlight of the games," said Jim Eddinger, Board Chair of the games. "Along with pickleball and basketball, this is one of our most popular events."

He added that athletes 50 years of age and older who place in the top four in their age group will qualify for the 2019 National Senior Games to be held in Albuquerque, N.M.

Sports/events to be held on Sunday include:

Sprinting: 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Dashes,

Running: 800m, 1500m and 5000m Runs

Walking: 1500m Race Walk, Power Walk

Throwing: Discus, Shot Put, Javelin and Weight Throw

Jumping: Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and Pole Vault

Eddinger noted that same day registrants (via cash or check) are welcome but urged those planning on signing up on Sunday to arrive at 8 a.m. to give themselves plenty of time to sign up and prepare for competition, which begins at 9 a.m.

The 2018 New Hampshire Senior Games continue through Labor Day and receive support from major sponsor Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
