DOVER - The New Hampshire Attorney Generals Office has opened a criminal investigation into allegations of wrongdoing by Strafford County Sheriff Mark Brave.
A letter apprising Brave of the ongoing probe was sent to him by Senior Assistant Attorney General Dan Jimenez on June 2.
In the letter Jimenez notes that the allegations made against Brave include theft, falsification in official matters and abuse of office.
It also directs the Strafford County Sheriff's Office to halt any internal probe into the matters being looked into by the AG's Office of Public Integrity Unit.
Copies of the letter were sent to all three Strafford County Commissioners as well as Strafford County Attorney Tom Velardi.
Brave was not immediately available for comment.
Jimenez said he would have no further comment as the investigation as it is active and ongoing.
