Strafford Jail inmate found dead in cell

DOVER, N.H. - An inmate housed at the Strafford County House of Corrections was found dead in his cell on Tuesday.

Sheriff David Dubois said his office sent an investigative team in response to an untimely death at the jail at 1:42 p.m. The Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the Dover Police Department's forensics team to assist at the scene.

Sheriff Dubois said the state's Medical Examiner was contacted and the investigation is ongoing and could take several weeks or more for a final determination.

The U.S. Marshal Service, which will coordinate any release of information regarding the death to the public, according to a press release sent out today, said they were not able to reveal any new details today, including the victim's name or manner of death.

They also did not reveal why the Marshal's Service was in charge of media releases.
