GREENLAND - A Maine man led Maine and New Hampshire State Police on a wild high-speed 50-mile chase on Sunday that began on Interstate-95 southbound in Scarborough, Maine, and ended in Greenland.

Maine State Police first got involved around 12:30 p.m. as they learned about a driver headed south in the Gray area. The man was identified as 27-year-old Ahmed Duale of Lewiston, who had just committed an armed robbery in Auburn. Troopers located the vehicle southbound on I-95 in Scarborough.

As police closed in to stop the vehicle Duale began to speed up and drive recklessly.

Duale refused to stop, weaving in and out of the lanes of travel. Numerous attempts to deploy spike mats were unsuccessful. Troopers continued the pursuit into New Hampshire where the New Hampshire State Police took over.

Once in New Hampshire Duale continued to drive recklessly. NHSP requested Maine assist them in preventing Duale from using the crossovers, which he had used on a few occasions. While attempting to keep Duale from using a crossover, Duale hit a Maine State Police cruiser at low speed. Taking advantage of the contact between the vehicles, a Trooper was safely able to stop Duale's vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident.

NHSP charged him with felony reckless conduct, disobeying an officer, disorderly conduct, reckless operation and indecent exposure. No explanation on the indecent exposure charge was released.

Ahmed was transported and held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections pending arraignment in Rockingham Superior Court later today. Assisting agencies included the Maine State Police, Kittery, Maine, Portsmouth, Greenland and North Hampton Police Departments.

This accident remains under investigation by Tpr. Petros Lazos. Anyone with information pertaining to this collision is asked to contact Tpr. Lazos, NH State Police-Troop A at (603) 223-3828, or at Petros.Lazos@dos.nh.gov.
