Tandem tractor trailer driver nabbed for DWI, open container

NEW LONDON - The driver of a tandem tractor trailer unit was taken out of service and charged with drunken driving after a concerned motorist called 911 to report his semi was all over the road.

State Police got involved on Saturday night around 11:25 when they received a complaint from a concerned motorist about a tractor-double trailer that was having lane issues and had possibly struck a guardrail on I-89 north in Warner.

The New London Police Department was able to locate the driver as he exited the interstate at exit 11 and conducted a motor vehicle stop. A state trooper arrived shortly after and conducted a roadside investigation into possible impairment of the driver.

Thomas Hawk, 64, of Newburgh, N.Y., was arrested for aggravated driving while intoxicated and open container. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear at the Newport District Court on April 11.

New Hampshire State Police Troop D was assisted on scene by New Hampshire State Police Troop G - Motor Carrier Unit, the New London Police Department and SG Reed Towing.
