LEBANON - Sommer Thompson of Lebanon has been drawing pictures since she was 9.

Now, a part-time student at York County Community College and part-time employee at Puddleby on the Hill kennel in Acton, she has spun her onetime hobby into a part-time profession.

It began when she drew a picture of her boss at the kennel and people started asking "Who did that?" she said at her booth earlier this month at the Lebanon Festival. She was then asked to draw portraits of some of the dogs that occasionally board there.

Thompson may have just recently begun selling her works, but they've been drawing praise for years.

"I used to always get first or second at the Acton Fair," she said recently while selling some of her portraits at the festival.

Thompson said it takes about a week to complete most of her works and they are drawn exclusively with an artist's pencil. The cost ranges with the size, from $75 for a 9X12 to $300 for a poster size.
