DOVER - Strafford Farms Restaurant has been around for almost 80 years, and based on what I saw and tasted on Saturday they may be around for 80 more.

I had been there numerous times during my 30 years on the Seacoast, including seeing some great entertainment in their Loft Lounge, but Saturday was my first time since the start of the pandemic.

I stopped in for a light lunch and was delighted with their vegetable teriyaki stir-fry, something I had never ordered before at any eatery.

Not a big lunchtime eater, I noticed they had smaller portion of the dish for just $7.99 and ordered it.

Boy, was I surprised how good it was.

The vegetable array was impressive: red and green peppers, mushrooms, carrots, shredded cabbage, onions, broccoli, pea pods, all sauteed in a tangy teriyaki sauce and served on a bed of rice.

The plate came with garlic bread, but since I am gluten free, my waitress, Colleen, suggested a grilled gluten free hamburger bun instead.

The panoply of teriyaki-flavored veggies combined with the rice resulted in a savory, delicately spiced offering that was incredibly satisfying, especially for a small plate.

The restaurant's atmosphere is casual and comfortable and Colleen provided excellent, cheerful service.

The Teriyaki stir-fry is among the restaurant's March specials.

Strafford Farms Restaurant is located at 58 Rochester Road (Route 108) in Dover.
