The Rochester City Council today is "Resurrecting" another plan to rezone and develop the Main Street Area.
Historically, long-range planning is not in the general scope of city management.
Why?
About a decade ago at a City Council meeting city management brought in a roadway planner to promote a round-a-bout for the Main and Washington street intersections.
He explained the calming effects these circles had on traffic management.
At one point in this hearing, he was looking around the room and prompted questions.
I asked, if rebuilding the Main Street Bridge to the "narrow specifications" of the NEEDs from a "Hundred Years Ago," would hinder the goals of this round-a-bout?
This gentleman said, "this was a good question."
It was at this time, the mighty verbal axe of former mayor TJ Jean quashed any questions from the public. "Questions will only come from City Council Members," he commanded.
The Council Members undoubtedly heard my question, and it was soundly ignored by all.
The Main Street Bridge had already been refurbished at the "longing" bequest (a legacy) of one former City Council Person.
(Likely supported by Rochester's "Hysterical" Historical Society, which should be disbanded.)
Even to this day, this is the pattern of a well greased "Dog and Pony Show," the Done Deal.
The Main Street Bridge and the Traffic Circle are, as yet, not ready for Prime Time.
Faces sometimes change, but I would be remised if I concluded that the overall "hereditary" Shenanigans of these board members over the years, did not turn my stomach.
