Three arrested in drug raid at Berwick apartment

BERWICK, Maine - Three individuals were arrested Thursday at a Berwick apartment where more than 50 grams of crack cocaine was seized by law enforcement officials.

Jose Antonio Sotomayor, 44, of Lyman Street Berwick, Maine was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking in schedule "W" Drugs, a Class B felony. Sotomayor is considered an armed career criminal and is currently on Federal Probation for previous weapons and narcotics violations. He was transported to York County Jail where bail was set at $10,000 cash.

Leslie Fenton, 32, also of Lyman Street, was arrested and charged with one count of trafficking in schedule "W" drugs. Fenton was also transported to York County Jail where she is being held on $10,000 cash bail.

Berwick police along with State Police made the arrests around 9 p.m. A search warrant was also executed on the Lyman Street apartment. The arrests and search were subsequent to a months-long investigation by Berwick Police, the Portsmouth (NH) Drug Enforcement Agency office, Eliot Police and Ogunquit Police. The Maine State Police assisted in the physical arrests as well as K-9 searches of the individuals, vehicles and the apartment.

A third person was also taken into custody but later released from the police station on unsecured cash bail.

Over fifty grams of crack-cocaine and cocaine were seized during the investigation. The estimated street value of these drugs is $5,000. The drugs were being purchased from Northern Massachusetts and transported to Berwick for resale in the Berwick/Somersworth area.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected to follow.
