Three injured, one cited in head-on Gonic Road collision

ROCHESTER - An elderly Rochester couple were among three injured today in a head-on collision on Gonic Road.

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. and ended with the two vehicles spread across both lanes of traffic, completely shutting down the road for a half hour.

Police say a brief investigation revealed that Brian Grant, 30, of Rochester, was driving south in a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier when he entered the northbound lane of travel, colliding with a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by David Lacy, 76, of Rochester. Lacy's wife, Sandra, 75, was also in the truck.

Police say when Grant entered the northbound lane David Lacy tried to avoid him but was unable to; they collided nearly headon.

David Lacy was not wearing his seat belt but his air bag did deploy, resulting in his suffering some facial injuries during the collision.

Both he and his wife were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries.

Grant was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for minor injuries. He was wearing his seat belt and his air bag deployed.

As a result of the investigation, Grant was issued a summons for a solid line violation.
