SPRINGVALE, Maine - Southern Maine Garden Club met recently at the Springvale Library (443 Maine Street) for a lesson in evergreen wreath making. The teacher was Annette Austin from Annie's Gardens in Springvale, ME, Tel: (207) 324-0331, e-mail: anniegardens@yahoo.com.

Austin was a very patient teacher and there were a number of neophyte evergreen wreath makers in the mix of gardeners. She went from bench to bench helping those who needed her help. She had provided club members with the metal form, the precut evergreen branches and some thick wire to wind around the little bunches of evergreens and then instructed us in the best and safest manner to turn these raw materials into a charming and fragrant evergreen wreath for our front doors.

SMGC meets throughout the year at the Springvale Library on the third Wednesday of every month beginning at 6:30 PM (unless otherwise noted). The public is invited to attend to sample our meetings to see if you would like to join us. The December meeting will be a Members-only Christmas Party. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 20th, beginning at 6:30 and the speakers will be Chris and John Bozak from Berry Best Farm in Lebanon, ME, and they will discuss growing blueberries, raspberries and peaches. FMI please contact in ME - Paula Frodyma at 207-475-8142or in NH - Donna Claveau at 603-332-4860.
