RMFA Expands Art Exhibit at Library

Our Director, Marie Lejeune, shares: From its founding in 2011 until the Covid-19 shutdown in March 2020, the RFMA has been hosting a rotating exhibit in the Library's Carnegie Gallery. "Once the Library reopened after the Covid-19 shutdown, and the exhibit in the Carnegie Gallery started up again, Matt [Wyatt] and I talked about displaying more art here in the Library," says Library Director Marie Lejeune. Now art graces the walls of the entire top floor of the Library. "It is wonderful to see such a variety of styles and colors", says Lejeune, "There is truly something for everyone!" Included in this exhibit is the RMFA's recent acquisition of the original Holly McKay painting of downtown Rochester, a reproduction of which can be seen on the side of the Irving Oil building on the corner of Brock Street and Columbus Avenue.

Health Market Connect

Health Market Connect will be conducting weekly workshops in the Community Room on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. (April 13th-May 25th). HMC employees will be here during those times to meet with and assist local residents in finding and enrolling in affordable (or sometimes free) insurance plans available to them.

HMC was awarded federal grant money in August of 2021 to facilitate a program - which is geared towards providing no-cost assistance with navigating the Healthcare.gov Marketplace, Medicaid, and Medicare. We aim to answer questions, educate the public on their health insurance plans, and assist them with taking the necessary steps in enrolling in the best health insurance plan available to them here in New Hampshire. We do not charge for our services, we do not (and legally cannot) favor one plan or insurance company over another, nor do we earn commission. We are 100% funded through our grant to provide these services to New Hampshire residents.

Remembering the Titanic

Please join us for our Titanic program on Saturday, April 16th at 2 p.m. in the Community Room honoring the 110th anniversary of the Titanic tragedy.

This presentation is suitable for ages 8 and older.

Our presenter, Dillon Guyer, grew up in Rochester and was a patron here, at the Library, for many years. The program will consist of a presentation sharing facts about the ship itself and its fateful night. He will also allow people to handle some of the Titanic artifacts he has collected. He will be giving away a relic from the ship to one lucky kid in attendance!

To register please visit the Main Desk or call (603)332-1428 ext. 2.

Children's Room

National Library Week: National Library Week was April 3rd-9th but because one week is not enough, we are celebrating the whole month of April! When you are visiting, stay for a "piece of cake" at our pretend play table & be sure to stop at the desk for a party favor!

Meet Our Staff:
The Children's Room has returned to normal services and as a way to help introduce their talented staff to new and returning patrons they have been highlighting them in mini-bios. We'll be sharing these in this column over the next couple of weeks.

This week we are featuring: Katie

Katie has worked in the Children's Room for seven years now! During her time at the library, she has digitized both the monthly newsletter & the Children's Summer Reading Program. Her favorite part about working here is helping readers connect with books they love!

If you've ever had a story time with Katie, you know that she loves stories that rhyme and "shaking out our wiggles" before we start a new story. She also loves seeing kids smiling faces when they come in to get their very own library card!

Outside of work, Katie spends most of her time running her website, Kait Plus Books. There, she helps authors and publishers by posting reviews, interviews, excerpts, and giveaways of upcoming books!

Katie firmly believes that you should treat others the way you want to be treated, that all reading is good reading, that most books are better the second (or fourth or eleventh) time you read them, and that all dresses should have pockets!

On Display:
RPL Librarian, Amy, shares: "This month's Chapter Book Fiction display in the Children's room is all about FANTASY! We have a wide selection of fantasy chapter books for all reading levels as well as bookmarks with even more age based selections. Come get yours today. They are flying off the shelves!

Albert Einstein said, "If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales." and "Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere."
