CONCORD - New Hampshire health officials on Saturday announced 10 additional deaths due to COVID-19, a single-day high equaled just this past Wednesday.

Despite the growing number of deaths and daily confirmed case counts, the state is moving on with reopening its economy on Monday with golf courses, barbershops, hair salons and nonemergency dental procedures all back in business.

DHHS numbers have shown over the pandemic that about three quarters of all deaths have occurred in congregate elder housing, with a very low rate of community spread, leading the governor and health officials to move forward to reopening the state's economy while taking added steps to protect its most vulnerable.

On Saturday DHHS announced 71 new positive test results for COVID-19 including five minors for a total of 3,011 cases.

The new cases reside in Rockingham (17), Hillsborough County other than Manchester and Nashua (10), Merrimack (8), Strafford (8), Belknap (1), and Carroll (1) counties, and in the cities of Manchester (12) and Nashua (6). The county of residence is being determined for eight new cases.

With some 1,500 being tested every day, it's notable that only four new hospitalized cases were identified for a total of 313 (10%) since the pandemic hit.

The deaths include

  • 3 female residents of Rockingham County, 60 or older
  • 3 male residents of Rockingham County, 60 or older
  • 3 female residents of Hillsborough County, 60 or older
  • 1 male resident of Merrimack County, 60 or older

In Maine the number of confirmed cases rose by 34 to 1,408, which includes about 120 suspected cases. There are currently 43 patients being treated in state hospitals. York County has seen 256 cases with 49 hospitalizations and eight deaths.
