Traffic stop leads to arrest in Berwick burglary

LEBANON - A Lebanon man has been indicted by a York County grand jury in the theft of equipment and power tools from a Berwick business.

Brice R. Charest, 23, of 21 Goding Road, was arrested in the March burglary last week in North Berwick after running a stoplight on a suspended license in front of a North Berwick police officer, Berwick Police said.

When the North Berwick officer ran his info after the stop he found two outstanding warrants for Charest's arrest, one from Wells and one from Berwick, said Detective William Russell of the Berwick Police Department.

Charest is charged with burglary, a Class C Felony.

Russell said Charest and two accomplices broke into Brown Industrial Group, an excavating company, located on Little River Road in Berwick and stole equipment and power tools, including a Husqvarna concrete saw.

He said much of the equipment was recovered, but some was sold to area pawn shops, which helped police identify the suspects.

Also arrested in the burglary were Jeffrey Beeler of South Berwick and Jeremy Michaud of Sanford.

Russell said all three suspects are well known to Berwick police.

A Class C felony is punishable by up to five years in state prison and a $5,000 fine.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, only that a grand jury has found sufficient evidence to move forward with a trial.
