Two opioid overdoses, one fatal, roil Gonic on Friday

GONIC - Two suspected drug overdoses were reported in Gonic on Friday, one involving a man at the Riviera Motel that proved to be fatal.

Police were not releasing the name of the 29-year-old victim pending notification of next of kin. The 911 call came in around 2 a.m.

The second overdose occurred just hours later around 6:45 a.m. on a front lawn at 72 Main St., when a woman stepped out of her vehicle and collapsed on the front lawn of the residence, police said.

The woman, thought to be around 30 years old, was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital and is thought to have survived the overdose.

Due to privacy laws, hospital personnel could not comment on her condition.

According to police, she had no connection to residents at the address.
