SOUTH LEBANON - Two Rochester men were injured and portions of South Lebanon lost power after a truck left the roadway and hit some utility poles on River Road Sunday night.

The two men, 36- and 20-years old, were both transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester with what are believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries after the crash, which occurred about a mile and a half off Route 202 around 8:30 p.m.

When first responders arrived, the Chevrolet truck involved in the accident was lying upside down in the road, according to a press release from Lebanon Rescue.

Both occupants were reported outside the vehicle.

“The Chevrolet truck was heading south on River Road towards Carl Broggi Highway when it left the roadway, went airborne striking two telephone poles several feet in the air and then rolled several times before finally coming to rest on its roof in the roadway. The roof of the truck was crushed below where the bottom of the windshield normally would be,” according to the release.

River Road was closed for about two hours while emergency crews worked at the scene.

About 135 houses were without power due to the accident. They include houses on Carpenter Street, Divine Way, Flat Rock Bridge Road, Knox Lane, Oak Hill Road, Pony Lane, River Road, Stanley Street, Trask Lane, Varney Street and Wentworth Street.

Residents in the area said today that power was restored sometime after midnight.

The truck was destroyed in the accident and had to be towed.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by Trooper Wells and Sergeant Burke of the Maine State Police.

Lebanon Fire also responded to the scene.
