GONIC - Two Rochester residents were seriously injured on Friday when the pickup they were in crashed into a tree off Gear Road in the Gonic section.
The crash occurred a little before 1 p.m. when police say it appeared as if the truck, a 1985 Chevrolet pickup driven by Lonnie Plourde, 42, was traveling south toward Route 125 when his vehicle went off the shoulder, lost control and struck the tree.
Both Plourde and his passenger, Kathleen Stackpole, 46, were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with serious, but nonlife-threatening injuries.
A portion of Gear Road was shut down while emergency personnel tended to the two people inside the vehicle.
The pickup truck suffered heavy front-end damage.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, police said.
