MILTON - Two motorists were seriously injured on Friday when the SUV they were traveling in crashed near the junction of routes 75 and 16 in Milton.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 2 p.m., according to a State Police communications supervisor reached this morning.

The supervisor said the Jeep Wrangler was registered out of Vermont, and two adults were transported to area hospitals.

An eyewitness who didn't want to be identified said he was traveling east on Route 75 when he watched in disbelief as the southbound Jeep that had just exited Route 16 plowed through the stop sign at the end of the exit ramp and crashed into a grove of trees just west of the 16S onramp.

He said the Jeep rolled and ended up on its side headed back in a northbound direction.

"If I had been there a few seconds sooner I'd have gotten T-boned," he said. "I'd be dead."

State Police accident reconstruction teams were onsite for a period of time following the crash.

No further information was immediately available.
