Union Leader: Driver of car had medical event

DOVER, N.H. - A tractor-trailer tore through a Dover tollbooth on Thursday, colliding with another car in the process and making for a nightmare afternoon commute for northbound motorists.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. just as the afternoon commute was getting under way.

Luckily, the tollbooth was unoccupied.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a tractor-trailer driven by Roland Joy, 47, of Massachusetts, was traveling southbound when it crashed through the Dover Tolls, also striking a 2013 Lexis driven by John Worley, 69, also from the Bay State.

Witnesses said the driver of a car struck a toll booth while driving in the wrong direction and after striking a tractor trailer truck, according to the Union Leader of Manchester, which also reported that the driver of the car reportedly suffered a medical event just prior to the accident.

What appears to be one of the tractor-trailer's front wheels lies under a rear carriage at the scene of Thursday's spectacular crash on the Spaulding at the Dover tolls.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital with what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries.

Traffic was tied up for several hours with police urging motorists to seek alternate routes.
