UPDATE: Bicyclist remains in fair condition after Wednesday crash

SANFORD - The Sanford bicyclist who was Medflighted to Maine Med with serious injuries in a collision with a vehicle on Wednesday has been identified as James Comppen, 57, of Sanford.

A hospital spokeman said Comppen was listed in fair condition today, upgraded from serious on Thursday.

The accident occurred a little before 6 p.m. in the area of Acorn Street when the motor vehicle and the bicycle were both traveling north on Main Street and police say the operator of the vehicle failed to see the bike.

Comppen sustained head and internal injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center by Life Flight of Maine.

The operator of the motor vehicle, Madison Sullivan, 17, of Sanford, was not injured.
