MILTON - Ms. Salinger, one of Milton Elementary's first-grade teachers, nominated Valerie Coleman because," …she (Valerie) is a very motivated student. She works hard. She loves to read. Valerie is helpful with the other students and is always willing to participate in classroom discussions."

As it turns out, not only is Valerie willing to participate in classroom discussions, she is also willing to participate in any conversation!

This bright first-grader is a middle child. She has an older brother, David, who is almost 20 and a little brother, Evan, who is 1 year old. She is a ball of energy who can be seen on the MES playground with her friend Chloe practicing gymnastics, climbing the monkey bars or spinning. Valerie noted that she likes to spin.

Valerie declared that she is a smart girl. Her favorite part of school is playing math games because she "gets to do all kinds of stuff."

She also noted that she enjoys computer games, like "Mindcraft," which require some skill.

Valerie can be quiet, too. She will sit quietly and watch "SpongeBob Squarepants" or "Teen Titans" with her three cats and eat lots of Rice Krispies.
