SANFORD, Maine - Sanford Police say they impounded a car in Biddeford on Monday that may have been involved in a Saturday hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 12-year-old Sanford bicyclist.

The collision occurred in the area of Pioneer Avenue and Mousam Street. The unnamed victim was rushed to the hospital and has since been discharged. The operator of the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.

After officers learned the vehicle was a 2002-2004 Toyota Avalon the information was posted by the police department asking the public for their help in locating the car, which would have shown front-end damage.

On Monday a concerned citizen contacted Biddeford Police Department to inform them a vehicle matching the description was parked in the Walmart parking lot.

Detectives from Sanford Police responded to the scene and questioned two individuals after which the vehicle was impounded for further forensic examination.
