DOVER - The two people who died on Thursday when the car they were in crashed into a utility pole and caught fire have been identified as Rochester men.

Joseph A. Bougie, 32, the owner of the car, and Michael J. Murphy, 22, were both found dead by a Dover Police Officer who came upon the scene around 12:25 a.m. as the BMW they were riding in was still fully engulfed.

Murphy was the father of two young children. Bougie was formerly from Sanford.

Neither of the families were immediately available.

Based on the condition of the vehicle and evidence at the scene, police believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed on Sixth Street near Longhill Road. Police have not yet said whether impairment was a factor.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office also responded to assist. The intersection remains closed while crews continue repairs and detours are in place. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Dover Police Department at 603-742-4646 or the Dover Crimeline at 603-749-6000.
