CONCORD - An investigation is under way into the fatal police shooting of a Walpole man on Saturday.
The incident unfolded around 11:15 p.m. when a 911 call was made to police, who responded to 1461 County Road for a report of domestic violence.
When State Troopers arrived on scene they met with a resident outside before entering the home where they encountered Christopher Tkal, 57.
During the encounter, one trooper discharged his weapon, according to a release from the Attorney Generals Office.
Tkal died at the scene.
During a preliminary investigation a loaded rifle was found underneath Tkal's body.
Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg determined on Sunday that Tkal's cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.
The name of the trooper involved in the incident is being withheld pending the conclusion of a formal interview.
The initial responding troopers did not have body or cruiser cameras.
The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation.
