WATERBORO - The second area vehicle collision involving a deer in just two days left a Waterboro man injured on Monday.

The accident on Monday occurred in the area of 247 Middle Road in Waterboro when York County Sheriffs Deputies say George Mason, 71, was operating a 2002 Saab around 3 p.m. when he swerved to avoid a deer in the road.

Mason's vehicle struck a utility pole, snapping it into sections and downing wires across the road.

Mason was able to get out of his vehicle and was transported by Waterboro Fire and Rescue to Southern Maine Medical Center with what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries.

Middle road was shut down for about two hours while work crews fixed the utility pole.
