Woman arrested for DWI with young children in vehicle

ROCHESTER - Police say a Dover woman was driving drunk on Academy Street Friday night while having two small children in her car.

The incident unfolded around 8:40 p.m. when police dispatch received a call regarding a vehicle on Academy Street with no lights on.

Officers responded and located the vehicle parked with the driver and two children still in the vehicle.

After field sobriety tests were administered Shannon K. Mitchell, of 368 Washington St., Dover, was taken into custody for aggravated DWI. She was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child x 2 for having a 3- and 4-year old in the car with her.

Mitchell was released on personal recognizance with an arraignment date next month.

The children were released to Mitchell's boyfriend.

DCYF personnel were also apprised of the arrest.
