WWII-themed event including Marines re-enactors set for May 30 at NHFM

MILTON - Come meet the Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 21st Marine Regiment, a World War II re-enacting group that portrays the life of U.S. Marines serving in the Pacific Theater. The World War II event will be held on May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the New Hampshire Farm Museum in Milton.

Baker Company's displays include the equipment and weapons used by the Marines in the Pacific Theater. Of special interest is the signalman who brings communication equipment and touches on the importance of communication as a vital role to stay in touch with other units and support elements. Baker Company is complemented by the 3rd Navy Medical Battalion and a Red Cross volunteer., including an incredible display about medical aid in the Pacific. The event will include Experience camp setup and live demonstrations.

The New Hampshire Farm Museum will also be offering tours of the historic Jones House and 1810 Tavern, featuring music of the Big Bands of the 1940s in the Parlor, Parlor games, and more. The 1940s Jones kitchen will focus on women on the Home Front. Learn how women and children stepped up while the men were away. See ration coupon booklets and discover which foods were rationed and why. Then sample homemade bread pudding with maple syrup, a recipe made popular during the war by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Renown Maine artist Sharon Yates, known for her paintings of cows, as well as the author of several books will be on hand to demonstrate her artistry and sign her books. Visitors can also take a tractor ride to tour the 50+ acre farm, see our farm friendly animals grazing in their pastures, visit our Victory Garden, speak to our traveling watch salesman and learn how the American watch and clock industry geared up for war.

Eventgoers can buy food during the event or bring a picnic lunch.
