ROCHESTER - Home Depot and the Depot Team Volunteers partnered with Rochester Main Street and Rochester Housing Authority to clean and paint the walls at Wyandotte Walkway earlier this month.

Home Depot donated the supplies, volunteers and base paint and Sherwin Williams donated a special graffiti resistant coating for the walls that repels tagging and makes for an easy cleaning. Improving the Wyandotte Walkway has been a year-long partnership between Rochester Main Street and the Rochester Housing Authority along with local businesses such as Urban Tree Service, Salmon Falls Ironworks, Home Depot and Sherwin Williams.

Projects included tree removal, installation of a decorative arch, cleaning, painting and the application of a graffiti resistant coating to the cement walls.

The walkway connects North Main Street not only to the Wyandotte Housing, but also the Wyandotte Falls Viewing Area and Cocheco Riverwalk.

The project was a Main Street initiative in improving public spaces within the downtown area, such as the Factory Court and Central Square Projects. Final plans call for landscaping during Rochester Pride next spring on April 19. The Wyandotte Walkway Project has been under the supervision of Rochester Main Street Design Committee volunteer Kevin Ryan, owner of State Farm Insurance on Columbus Avenue.
